Hong Kong Science and Technology Park • 2020

Intelligent wayfinding application for large building complex

Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) is the city’s largest R&D base empowering the innovation and technology ecosystem in Hong Kong, supporting innovators to turn ideas into market-ready solutions. HKSTP’s 330,000-square metres campus consists of 21 buildings, accommodating nearly 900 partner companies. It is therefore important to have in place an effective wayfinding system for tenants and visitors to find their destination.

onActivity helped HKSTP install an intelligent wayfinding application – Smart Ambassador, on 6 floors of 19W, a building that houses hundreds of incubation companies. Smart Ambassador integrates A.I. and anonymous facial recognition to digital signage and offers direction and recommendation to visitors. A total of 17 directory signages were set up, making it easy for guests to find the company they are visiting.

Wayfinding is particularly important in large building complexes such as shopping malls, healthcare and educational campuses, and transportation facilities. The Smart Ambassador system creates a whole new way of using digital signage for public and retail environment to implement wayfinding, venue analytics, upselling etc. in a smart way. The system features easy third party integration, demographic statistics, and no personal information will be stored.
